Government of India, Ministry of Environment,Forests & Climate Change had established Regional Offices in 1986 for effective implementation of Forest (Conservation) Act,1980. Initially 5 regional offices of MOEF were established at 5 regions of the Country.
Later on one more regional office at Chandigarh was established. Subsequently work of monitoring of projects approved under Environmental (Protection) Act, was also given to the Regional Offices.
